It’s already the third month of 2013, which means we’re nearly 1/4 of the way done with the year, but there’s still plenty of time for you to make good on your resolutions! With a little motivation and some commitment, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your goals in no time. Our 72 Day Transformation contestants, who began around mid-January, are already messaging us with updates like:
“I am loving my transformation! People are starting to notice that I have toned up and my clothes are fitting me better. Can’t wait to see my final results!”
and
“I am six pounds down and ready to try a new pants size : ) More energy and better eating choices, too”
It doesn’t take long to start seeing changes, and there’s even time to change your body before summer arrives (which will hopefully be any second. Brr!). But you might need a little motivation to get up and get moving. We’ve put together a few simple tips you can utilize to help get – and stay – motivated!
#1: Write it Down. By having planned workouts, then filling in a quick description of what you did, or even simply checking off the workout as done, you harness the power of the pen to keep you motivated to exercise. A key component of achieving any goal is to write it down!
#2: Strike A Pose. We know. You’re not necessarily happy with your body when you get started and taking pictures sounds less than fun, but trust us, you’ll be able to see your results clearly take shape if you take before and after pictures along your journey, especially if your goal is aesthetic, such as shedding fat or adding muscle. Try to take front and side pictures each periodically, include your whole body and avoid loose fitting clothing. You’ll be able to easily see results and use them to remain motivated!
#3: It’s More Fun With A Friend. To keep you from sleeping through a workout, there’s nothing like knowing a friend is glancing at their watch, waiting for you to show up. If you have trouble roping a friend into your fitness plans, grab Fido and head for the trails. And if you really want a fitness-specific friend, check out the next tip.
#4: Chat With A Personal Trainer. Though a friend can motivate you to exercise, a personal trainer takes it to a whole new level. They’ll push you, provide a plan, and get you workout results quickly. Be aware that the right trainer can make all of the difference. Look for proper certifications, experience, and a professional demeanor. In other words, look for a Complete Fitness Personal Trainer.
#5: My ipod, my friend. A 2009 study found that basketball players could shoot better free throws while listening to upbeat music that they enjoyed. Researchers have suggested that the same positive distraction that helped those basketball players shoot better can also distract us from fatigue experienced during exercise. Load your mp3 player up with your favorite songs and get motivated by the music.
