Happy Tuesday!
So Summer is officially over and it’s time to start gearing up for the holidays.
But don’t worry.
Because today, I’ll tell you about a neat little tip that can help you stay fit.
Fall’s here. And for most people, it’s a VERY busy time of year.
The kids are back in school, the holidays are just a few weeks away, and the “to do” list just seems to see no end in sight.
That’s why most people let their fitness slide by the wayside around this time. But it doesn’t have to be that way …
What if I told you that even just a minute “here” and a minute “there” of exercise could help you keep fit and trim?
Well, a recent study done by the University of Utah shows that it’s possible.
In fact, it turns out that every little bit really DOES count when it comes to toning up and slimming down.
What the researchers found was fascinating. When it comes to activity, intensity of the activity matters more than duration, for weight loss.
So for example, doing even just a minute of an “intense” movement that gets your heart and lungs pumping is more effective than moving around at a very low intensity for the same amount of time.
The researchers found that for women, every minute spent doing any kind of intense activity was related to burning enough calories to lose .41 pounds! That means that a woman who did one more minute of brisk exercise than one who didn’t, weighed half a pound less (imagine the possibilities!).
The results were very similar for men.
Jessie X. Fan, one of the study’s authors, stated that: “What we learned is that for preventing weight gain, the intensity of the activity matters more than duration.”
We’ve known for a while that intense cardio is great for burning calories and helping you stay fit and healthy. But what is surprising to learn is that it doesn’t have to be continuous.
You can spread out your “cardio” throughout the day. Maybe a few minutes here … a few minutes there … and you can reap similar benefits.
So the moral of the story? Get moving, even if it’s just for a minute or two!
Remember, the goal is to exert yourself and get your heart pumping and your lungs working.
Maybe do some quick pushups three times a day … park far away from the stores you have to go to … take the stairs and walk up faster than you normally would, etc.
Challenge yourself, a minute at a time. Don’t worry about doing a ton of time all at once. Because after all, every little bit counts. And doing so will help you stay slim and trim this fall and holiday season.
