**Ask The Expert Episode 3**
“How long before bed should I stop eating?”
There is all kinds of conflicting advice about not eating anything after 6 pm or supper time. There is not a hard and fast rule for when to stop eating.
Before you start worrying about meal timing, which is an advanced strategy, make sure you have the basics in place…
⓵ Hydration – drink half your body weight in ounces of water
⓶ Protein – make sure your body is getting enough lean protein to feed and support lean muscle
⓷ Calories – use MyFitnessPal to get a starting point for how many calories you need to consume daily to reach your goals
Once you have those habits in place then you can look at meal timing. If you have not reached your calorie goal for the day then you must continue to fuel (eat) your body up to the time you go to bed.
Choose foods that are higher in protein, healthy fat and fibrous vegetables. Here are some ideas:
☑ Eggs – make an omelet or scrambled eggs with veggies
☑ Cottage cheese with a handful of almonds
☑ Protein shake made with almond milk
If you find that you are VERY hungry in the evening and used to snacking then you have to break that habit. You must eat more throughout the day so yoru appetite is under control. Finally, set up your environment for success. If you have candy, ice cream or chips in the house, you’re going to eat them.
I hope this helps shed some light on this topic of when to stop eating before bed.
